Today, with the whole Church we enter the Sacred Triduum. Today. I celebrated the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at our Saint Mary Altar. In this liturgy we celebrate Jesus Christ’s Institution of the Holy Eucharist as the essential Sacrament for his Church. Some portions of the regular Liturgy were suspended … washing of feet and procession of the Blessed Sacrament to a separate Altar of Repose. Nevertheless, the centrality of the Eucharist was just as evident. Here is the Collect for the Mass:
O God, who have called us to participate in this most sacred Supper, in which your Only Begotten Son, when about to hand himself over to death, entrusted to the Church a sacrifice new for all eternity, the banquet of his Love, grant we pray, that we may draw from so great mystery, the fulness of charity and of life. Throughout our Lord Jesus Christ, you Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Set at the beginning of Triduum this Mass of the Lord’s Supper extolls Christ’s loving sacrifice for our salvation. Our Redemption of accomplished every time the Holy Sacrifice of the Altar is offered … even, as is now the case, the Faithful cannot receive Holy Communion.
The Mass of the Lord’s Supper also brings focus on the virtue of servanthood, each of us to the other. In this context the institution of the Sacred Priesthood is also celebrated. It is a supreme honor for me to share in this priestly ministry as Christ with his people.
Our Mass of the Lord’s Supper concluded with this prayer:
Grant, almighty God, that, just as we are renewed by the Supper of your Son in this present age, so we may enjoy his banquet for all eternity. Who lives an reigns for ever and ever. Amen
May God Bless you in the Name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Dear People, I urge you to enter into the Passion of the Lord (Good Friday) by watching one of the many YouTube or Internet programs or live EWTN programs.
